About the Audi R8 GT V10 560PS R-Tronic

On Saturday 10^th May 2010, Audi announced the highly anticipated R8 GT. This limited production, high specification version of the R8 V10 epitomises the sporting heritage of the Audi brand. Taking inspiration from the Le Mans racing series to move the R8 road car one step closer to its GT3 racing sibling. With only 333 R8 GTs being produced worldwide, Audi are making a clear statement about how special this supercar really is.

Only 33 of these were to make it to the UK meaning that demand was going to vastly outstrip supply. Loyal customers were obviously prioritised by Audi and the previous owner of this car was accepted to become one of the first to get his hands on this rare model. He has been a long-time customer of ours and has previously owned 2 R8s making him the ideal candidate.

About this car

So what makes this Samoa Orange R8 GT so special? Well, the 5.2 litre V10 engine was enhanced to produce 560PS and over 100kg of weight was saved to enable to GT to sprint to 62mph in a staggering 3.6 seconds! That same engine will continue to propel the car to 100mph in another 2.2 seconds.

The incredible power of this highly tuned FSI engine is delivered seamlessly through the R-tronic gearbox and onto the road via quattro permanent four-wheel-drive.

When we mention the R8 GT, we talk about all of the additions, the carbon fibre, the carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic (CFRP), improved aerodynamics and breath-taking performance, but I think the most significant change is what was taken away. 100kg is a lot of weight to save on a car that was already very light thanks to the aluminium space frame, so designers had to be very inventive. All glass except the side windows were replaced with lighter high-tech alternatives saving 9kg, lighter sheet metal and additional cut-outs shaved a further 2.6kg from the aluminium and the new fixed spoiler saved a further 1.2kg.

Even on the inside of the car, substantial weight savings have been made. Seats have been replaced by bucket seats on CFRP frames and the lightweight construction has saved a further 36g. All this weight saving hasn’t affected feeling of quality in the car though. It’s clear that the car has been enhanced, everything feels very premium and exclusive – as you would expect from any Audi, but especially one limited to these small numbers.

This particular car was very well specified and the previous owner spared no expense in ordering a truly unique and highly exclusive car. The brakes have been upgraded to high-performance ceramics, the fuel tank was upgraded to the 90-litre and interior comforts including Bluetooth preparation and Audi Music Interface were added to complete what can only be described as the most incredible car we have ever had in stock here at Poole Audi.

Priced at £153,950 with only 1,478 miles on the clock and a unique specification, we don’t expect this rare model to be with us for long.

This is a fully fledged supercar with the towering performance and soundtrack to match. Trail the brakes into a corner or be aggressive with the throttle and you can provoke the GT into all manner of silly cornering angles.
