Meet the New Audi A5 – The Start of a New Era for Audi
Audi has unveiled its highly anticipated new Audi A5, the first production model built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). This launch marks a major step in introducing a new generation of models with more efficient combustion engines. The Audi A4, a long-standing bestseller, will now be rebranded as the Audi A5 as part of Audi's new naming convention.
Restructured Naming and Innovative Powertrains
Audi’s new naming convention will see fully electric models identified by even numbers, such as Q4 and Q6, while combustion engine models will come under odd numbers. The new Audi A5 will be produced in Neckarsulm, Germany, featuring powertrain naming based on specific drive system performance, expressed in PS (e.g., the 40 TDI will be named TDI 204PS).
The new Audi A5 captivates with its premium proportions, available in both Saloon and Avant body styles, embodying the sporty essence of Audi's design philosophy. It features efficient, partially electrified combustion engines in the form of mild hybrids, alongside a thrilling Audi S5 petrol engine with 367 PS topping the range.
Dynamic and Muscular: The Exterior
The redesigned Audi A5 family boasts a powerful and clean design. With a long wheelbase, pronounced quattro blisters, and a low, sporty body, it embodies progressive dynamism and premium standards. The front is dominated by a wider and flatter Single frame with a three-dimensional honeycomb design, accompanied by slim, precisely drawn headlights.
The sporty and compact-looking roofline of the Saloon flows seamlessly into the shallow rear window in a coupé-like manner, ending at the tailgate with a striking spoiler lip. In the Avant, the dynamic and taut roofline merges into a seamlessly integrated roof spoiler, emphasising the dynamic side view.
New Standards: Lighting Technology
The Audi A5 family features digital daytime running lights with LED technology at the front and second-generation digital OLED rear lights at the rear. LED headlights plus and LED rear lights pro feature as standard from the Sport trim, including digital daytime running lights, animated coming and leaving home functions, illuminated rear light strip, and dynamic rear indicators. For the first time, customers can choose from up to eight digital light signatures in the redesigned daytime running lights of the Matrix LED headlights on Edition 1 and S Edition 1 via the MyAudi app and MMI, allowing for unprecedented personalisation.
Technology Meets Comfort: The Interior
The new Audi A5 series has a fully connected and digital interior based on Audi's latest electronic architecture. The Audi MMI panoramic display and MMI passenger display form a visually clear and driver-oriented ‘Digital Stage’. The ambient lighting enhances the curved display at night, creating a generous feeling of space with high-quality, recycled materials.
The slim, free-standing Audi MMI panoramic display features an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. The head-up display, part of the Sound & Vision pack, offers an 85% larger visible field and allows control of vehicle and infotainment functions.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Bang & Olufsen Premium sound system with headrest speakers drives 22 loudspeakers with 810 watts of power, creating sound zones within the cabin. Apps like YouTube are available via the integrated store, offering a range of music, video, gaming, navigation, and news services.
Advanced Hybrid System: MHEV Plus
The Audi A5's new MHEV plus system, based on a 48-volt on-board electrical system, supports the combustion engine, reducing CO2 emissions while increasing performance. The powertrain generator (PTG) can add up to 24PS of electric power and recuperate energy up to 25 kW during deceleration.
Driving Dynamics: Chassis and Steering
The new Audi A5’s suspension and steering have been extensively developed, offering precise and effortless handling. The adaptive dampers, standard on the Audi S5, provide significant differentiation between comfort and sportiness.
Enhanced Safety: Driver Assistance Systems
The new Audi A5 features a wide range of standard driver assistance systems, including:
- Parking system plus with 360° display
- Swerve assist and turn assist
- Rear-view camera
- Traffic-sign-based speed limiter
- Adaptive cruise control
